One thing I’ve seen for a long time is that most employers don’t speak to job hunters and explain what’s in it for them.

One of the mistakes firms make on positioning themselves to attract great people to their firm, is they focus on what they need. You know, ‘we need someone who . . . ‘ Yeah, we got that. and there, you could simplify things.
But today, I just want to remind you, what’s in it for them to join? What is it about the experience that they are going to have working for your firm, working for this manager that’s going to make it attractive to them?
You see, you don’t talk to them in their terms. You talk to them in your terms. You’re a demanding SOB. You want stuff from them. And that’s okay. You’re entitled to select people who have the right skills and talents, but you don’t think in their terms. What’s their experience like when they contact you? Is it all about me? Me, me, me, me, or do you really talk with them about what the opportunity is for them?
