I’ve been working with a few recruiters the last 2 months and when they
start working with me I make it clear where I have applied and where other
recruiters have submitted me to. Is it fair to say that even if you are
working with recruiters you still should not put of applying directly to
organizations that you don’t know you have been submitted to? I don’t want
to ruin anyone’s chance for a commission they have rightfully earned, and I
also want to give myself the best chance of finding the dream job so I’m
covering all my bases (recruited and non-recruited positions).

In most cases, when you tell a recruiter where you have applied or another recruiter has submitted with you they will stay clear of that firm because they know they cannot place you there. However, they now know of a firm that is hiring and, people fear, that they will submit candidates as competitition to you. It doesn’t work that way. Most companies have chosen vendors and will not accept referrals from firms they do not have a contract with.
