Did The Recruiter Want Me to Fail? | JobSearchTV.com
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
A recruiter emailed me about a vacancy but declined to provide details. Then, when the manager interviewed me, he asked what I knew about the position and its responsibilities, obviously, I didn’t know much. Do you think the recruiter wanted me to fail the interview?
My Manager/Boss Found Out I’m Looking!
I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter, a coach who helps people professionally in a number of different ways. Someone wants me to answer this question–
A recruiter emailed me about a vacancy but didn’t tell me many details. Then when the management interviewed me, he asked what I knew about the position andits responsibilities. Of course. I didn’t really know much. Do you think the recruiter wanted me to fail the interview?” And the answer is, “No.” And I know that may surprise you but no, they didn’t want you to fail because frankly, I have to say there is a 99.9 percent of the cases. Frankly, they earn a fee if you succeed so, they have an incentive for you to succeed in this.
But, number one is they may not have known much. Number two is maybe they see everything as a numbers game. They flip stuff against the wall and hope that it sticks and they’re not really doing much in the way of explaining and don’t really understand what their client is looking for. All they may do is look for keywords and flip the resume. So there’s the real exception where the hiring manager says “I just want to see one more person.”. It doesn’t happen that often where this occurs but it’s always possible that they wanted to see one more person, they threw you up there. They had the other individual and it didn’t matter to them and it was a numbers game.
