I want to talk with you about a big mistake job hunters make when they are researching companies, trying to figure out whom to connect with to apply for a job without going to the applicant tracking system… All the stuff that you can do through research.
The most common mistake people make is they only contact current employees of the firm. They don’t think of contacting the previous ones.
Yes, previous ones can be jaded. They left. However, they may know is much as the current employees about the job that you are applying for, about the organization, the good points, the bad points, and more willing to share them than the current employees are.
Why might the current employees not talk?
Because they may be afraid that you will get back, they don’t know you from a hole in the wall, and, as a result, they become reluctant. My encouragement to you is really very simple. On LinkedIn. You use the advanced search option to search a previous employer. Look for, “Past Company.” Choose that. Enter whatever search terms are relevant. See if you can find the hiring manager by contacting previous employees of the firm., Rather than just simply going to the applicant tracking system.
