Branding Yourself Is Important and Easy | JobSearchTV.com
I have done a lot of work over many years to brand myself and to stand out in a good way so that people will know, like, trust and respect me for my expertise. You don’t have to do as much as I do to develop your personal brand. However, doing nothing is also a brand and can be expensive for you.
I didn’t really think about branding myself when I started off as The Big Game Hunter, I thought about, you know, how do I differentiate myself from all the other people who did recruiting and Headhunter . . . The Big Game Hunter, it kind of jived for me. And from that, I started using that term and trademarked it.
I want to talk with you about easy ways to brand yourself, without coming up with a name like I did. I started from there, to do things to stand out in a positive way. I started an ezine. That’s work. I’m not going to suggest you do that right away. I started to do things like creating videos. I started a podcast. Again, that’s work.
But what I started to also do was put myself out there by sharing advice, sharing opinions, sharing things about the job market in places where people could notice me. And from there, that’s how I began to build a brand– sharing things I knew about sharing things that I had a competency around, and that people would start to notice me.
Yes, I did The Big Game Hunter. Yes, I’ve got a YouTube channel with 1thousands of videos, and a podcast, that’s number one in its category. But for you, if you’re just starting out, I’m going to tell you, share information with people. That could be your own or other people’s information that you make and you think makes sense for people to know about.
Now, why is branding important? I’ll simply say, when you go to the store and you buy a detergent, you have a choice between a no-name brand or a brand that has a name to it. You choose the band with a name to it, maybe because, well, you may have a coupon for it, you may have heard that it’s a good product, you probably don’t even care. You pick up the thing because of its price. But ultimately, you’re making a decision between store brand and something else because you have an association with that as a product.
Cheaper has a name to it. And that’s going to be the difference for you. You can be a no-name brand. And people will try to hire you on the cheap. You can be a premium brand and people are willing to pay more for you and they’ll seek you out.
So it’s your choice. Branding is important. Not branding is a branding process, and I’ll encourage you, start doing things to contribute to the people that you know, the more people will come to you because you do that.
