Are you tired of submitting applications into a black hole? The truth is, relying solely on online applications is the #1 mistake job hunters make.
Be honest: how long have you been looking for a job? Weeks? Months? Longer? Well, if you’re sending out the same resume over and over again, like the broken watch that’s right twice a day, you’ll get a couple of results, but you’re going to fail. Job hunting is not about hitting easy apply. It’s not about spamming resumes. You’re wasting time, and I want to help you fix that.
I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search advice and career coaching globally because they make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier. Most people are going to fail because they confuse activity with making actual progress.
You don’t need to apply to a hundred jobs or more in order to find that next one. You need a few targeted ones, jobs where you know your story and your
background are going to fit for that organization. If you send out the same resume, the one that looks like everyone else’s, for every job, it’s going to disappear because it’s going to be buried in the crowd.
If your LinkedIn headline says “open to work,” you don’t want to be desperate, and that’s what you’re going to be screaming there: “You’re desperate”. Here’s what to do instead, and here’s what works instead. Start treating your job search like a marketing campaign. You are the product. Think of how you’d sell yourself as the product.
Rewrite your headline to say what you do, not what you need. Use your network. Yeah, message people, don’t hide behind the keyboard. Start talking to people and having conversations. Stop just applying on job boards. You’re wasting time. Frankly, job boards and recruiters fill 30% of all positions at tops, and you’re spending 60% of your time or more applying for jobs.
Track results. If after like 10 applications you’re not getting results, do something different. The long and the short of it is, you can find this next role, but not if you keep doing the same things over and over again. You’re not a failure, you really aren’t. You’re just working with a broken strategy. I want to help you. Come over to JobSearch.Community. I’ve got free content there. I’ve got inexpensive memberships where I can coach you into your next role.
