What Every Employer Assesses for When They Hire
Recently, I’ve started to share advice from different people including Job Hunters that I thought might be helpful, too, because these are folks who are in the fray. And if there are other coaches, they may have a different perspective than I do that I think will help.
And I found some advice from a man named Ari Cohn, C-O-H-N, of CBS News that I thought I’d share with you. I’m Jeff Altman. The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search advice and career coaching globally, because I make the process so much easier for people.
And he wrote, “I noticed that not all job search engines scrape out the open job posting from every company site. Formulate a list of your target companies and be sure to check their career page directly for new opportunities.
For sites such as Indeed or LinkedIn, when setting up job alerts, remember to use variations on titles to aggregate possible job postings. For example, instead of only using an alert for a recruiter, also set up an alert for talent acquisition specialist, talent manager, talent partner, people operation specialist (as you can tell he does recruiting)
Being on the job market is never ideal, and many of us in this position were impacted by corporate layoffs. As much as that stings, please remember to not share your negative feelings on public forums like LinkedIn. Vent all you want to your loved ones, friends, pups, cats, bartenders or cheesemongers, but speaking ill of your last employer in a public space is not going to do you any favors.
Lastly, he writes, “remember to make space for yourself. The process of job search can be daunting. So it’s important to step away from the laptop and go for a walk, take a fitness class, get a cookie dough milkshake, whatever it takes for you to be present for yourself.
I think these are a series of great pieces of advice than more people need to act on. And for me as a coach, I need to get up from my laptop with regularity, too.
