Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter points to one of the personal and professional mistakes people make that keeps them from fulfilling their dreams.

hi I’m Jeff Hopp in the big game hunter
each time you take an assignment that
you shouldn’t have because you’re trying
to be cooperative and so you’re a team
player there’s a little death that
occurs yes you show that you’re a team
player but on the other hand what starts
to happen is as you take on the second
and the third and fifteenth like this
you start to demonstrate that you can be
manipulated that’s not the word that
they use they don’t think in terms of
taking advantage of someone but what
starts to happen is they start to have
lazy thought and that impacts you they
start to think that hey you know
whatever we need something we just ask
that have to ask her or ask him to do it
for us and they will practicing saying
no to the wrong work is incredibly
important skill for you in developing
your career practicing saying no to the
little situations to step into in your
personal life isn’t ridiculously
important skill each time each and every
time we make a choice that isn’t right
for us each time that we sacrifice our
own dreams and aspirations to
accommodate someone else it’s an
expensive decision it doesn’t seem that
way in the time but pennies add up the
nickels and nickels
I stopped to become dollars and dollars
become thousands of dollars and I use
that metaphorically even though it could
actually mean that professionally you
need to jealously guard your dreams and
work toward achieving them and not
helping accommodate someone else’s
awkward situation remember no is it
important skills that develop
