Would You Accept A Counteroffer? | No BS Job Search Advice
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
A Sportscaster said about a player who wanted to be traded, “There’s nothing a bag of money wouldn’t cure.” Would you take a counteroffer?

Counteroffers are the bane of third-party recruiters and corporations, representing a failure to successfully sell and persuade.
When I worked in search, there used to be an article called, “Counteroffer Acceptance: The Road to Career Ruin” that was used as a weapon by every recruiter I knew to persuade people to leave to join their client’s company and not succumb. It exaggerated the risks but, because it was published in a reputable publication, carried weight.
Bull.
Sometimes a counteroffer makes sense.
That is true in sports where a bag of money may solve the problem that made a player want to be traded.
It may be true of you, too. Don’t be so certain one way or the other.
Listen. Decide.
