Why Do More Companies Rely on Video Interviews?

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
Why are more companies relying on applicants doing video interviews where they just answer questions, if they can’t see the interviewee face-to-face to know their personality?

Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter I’m a coach who helps people a variety of ways professionally. They can involve a job search, hiring more effectively,
managing and leading, career development, workplace related stuff, executive coaching . . .  a whole host of different things.

Why are more companies relying on people doing video interviews where they just answer questions if they can’t see  the person face to face to know their
personality.

Now that’s one element of what’s a firm looks for is personality. They also look for competence and you can rule out people who don’t meet minimum criteria based upon lack of competence so that’s one reason they do it.

Number two is it’s a time saver for them. They are not wed to doing something at a specific time in a specific place focused only on one thing. They can watch the results on their commute, for example. They can do it when they have a break in their day because they have phones. They can do it wherever they want, if you get my meaning there. So, the result winds up being there’s a second reason– it’s a time saver.

Third thing is analytics. There’s analytics behind the scene to compare the answers that they received with successful people in their organization.

Lastly, what makes you think they can’t pick up on personality because they can. That’s the reality to it– firms pick up on personality just like you’re picking up
online watching this video right? So the assumption and the question that they can’t pick up personality is completely wrong. You can. The idea is to share
your personality, put the twinkle in your eyes, let them see the life in your manner during the course of your answers so that they’re enticed with them.

Again, they’re trying to deal with competence primarily. They’re looking secondarily at personality. That’s their time saver.
