There are so many things that recruiters do. This doesn’t need to be one of them, except if you’re an outside recruiter.

I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm a coach who helps people with job search, hiring more effectively, managing and leading, all sorts of workplace related issues. Somebody asked me, "Why do companies use recruiters to schedule interviews?" I don't know if this is internal recruiters or third party recruiters, external recruiters. I'm going to speak to both.

I'm going to start with the external recruiter first. They use those recruiters to save time. The time saved is, first, these people have identified and referred people to the organization that they're interested in talking to for which they'll earn a fee if the person is hired and lasts in their employed for a period of time. This may be a surprise to you, but not all Job Hunters are instantly responsive and, as such, what the third party recruiter's able to do is chase this person, get them to respond. They know some of the things that this individual confides in them about their thoughts about the organization.

The internal recruiter, if they're doing this, they're going back and forth and back and forth and, sometimes, it takes too long and they've got other things to do. Scheduling is an easily outsourced service that really doesn't require a lot of mental effort. It revolves effort. It requires manpower to do. And as such for an external recruiter, it's something they can do in their sleep, and thus, it's easier for the corporation to outsource.

Now for the internal recruiter, why are they doing it insteadof teh hiring manager? The hiring manager has other things to do. They're doing their job, and, thus, they outsource it to the internal recruiter who may, of course, outsource it to an external recruiter because, again, it's a time saver. It's not a distraction.

Hiring managers don't have the time to call someone two or three times to get them on the calendar. Better to send it to someone else so they can do their job.
