I wrote, “Jack Kelly, as you know, hyperspecializing has its own risks–as has happened before, one becomes a unique expert in something that has limited application to other firms.
Embracing AI is only one part of what someone should do. Being at the vanguard of a technology upheaval has its own risks, of course. However, what never is at risk is doing world-class work and having others know about it. You need to think like a marketer and do self-promotion, not just in your own organization but outside of it.
If your work is so unique as to be valueless elsewhere, move on before they move on from you. That’s because they always move on from people like you.”
