What’s the Difference Between LinkedIn Apply and LinkedIn EasyApply?
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
When you apply for a job you may notice you can use Apply for some jobs and EasyApply for others. What’s the difference?
How Long Should You Stay in a Job You Hate?
What’s the difference between LinkedIn EasyApply, and LinkedIn Apply? I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I provide no BS career advice to people globally. That can relate to a job search, hiring more effectively, management, leadership, career transitions, workplace-related issues and whatever comes to mind that relates to the workforce.
Now, LinkedIn Apply is an option, when you see an ad on LinkedIn. It may say Apply. And when you click the button, it connects with the firm’s ATS or applicant tracking system. And you will basically apply through their website.
LinkedIn EasyApply is different. What it does is, in some of the fields, you’re going to have to still fill it out. But it’s also going to attempt to auto-populate some from your LinkedIn profile. Certain relevant information, it doesn’t necessarily have– your email address or your mobile number. But you can do a lot of this through LinkedIn. And you can also upload a resume from LinkedIn EasyApply, as you would with an applicant tracking system.
Eventually, you’ll get to a point where on their side, they’ll see your profile picture your headline, the four most recent work experiences you’ve had your education, a couple of other things, like skills and relevant keywords. Remember, skills are those options that exist on LinkedIn toward the bottom of your profile that people have validated you for. And thus, you’re always wanting to make sure that people endorse you or endorse you for skills that are relevant. You don’t want as happened to me, people endorsing you for full project lifecycle, when I was doing recruiting. I didn’t know anything about a full project lifecycle except in search. And that wasn’t what the option was meant to do.
So again, recruiters are going to see your profile picture, your headline, the number of jobs you’ve applied for, your four most recent work experiences, your education, skills you listed and relevant keywords, your contact information, that’s the basic stuff that they’ll see.
So LinkedIn does make it easier in many respects, but one of the downsides is tailoring your profile for it to auto-populate doesn’t really exist, it’s coming in off your profile. So you always want to make sure that your profile may have a tweak or two that relates to a particular job. So that this way when you’re applying, it’s making the fit more obvious.
