What Recruiters Know That You Don’t: Many Interviewers Have No Attention Span
One thing recruiters know that job hunters don’t is, when you’re on an interview, particularly if you’re in senior leadership, you need to be prepared to risk everything.
Sitting there being nice and accommodating and friendly, may work at a junior staff level but the more senior you get, the more you have to stick your chin out there and be prepared to take a punch, and also to be very direct and blunt with people. Not rude, but being very direct, because they’re not looking for BS. They’re looking for solutions. And if they know you can spot a problem, if you can fix it, they like that.
So don’t be so nice. Don’t be so friendly. That person sitting opposite you isn’t your friend. They’re evaluating and assessing you for a leadership role.
