How Do They Decide Between Two Equally Good Finalists?

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
There is one incorrect assumption in the question I point out and then go further.

Job Search Resilience And Being Solid

“What else do recruiters/interviewers look out for when deciding between 2 remaining people who are equally good at delivering on the job?”

I love this question!  Let me tell you why.

There are some subtleties in the question that I think are fascinating.  It starts off with, “no 2 people are equally qualified.”  They may need some basic criteria but they are not identical.  In addition, the question implies that recruiters and interviewers make the decision.  Hiring managers make the decision, not recruiters or interviewers.  Interviewers could be at staff level.  Hiring managers.  They make choices.

So what is the hiring manager do to choose between 2 very good options?  I’m not going to say that they are identical.  2 very good options.

Among the things that they look at are:

Is the candidate willing to accept their offer when made?

Will they accept the offer when made at the price that they are willing to offer?

How will the person interact with them as a manager?

How will this person make them look good?

Is there any reason to worry about them?

Are the tiebreakers between the different skills?

However, the oral communications?

How the written communications (Written communications can be expressed through emails)? People send emails to the course of their search.  There is information there That demonstrates whether they can express themselves clearly.  For some jobs, that is going to be important.

What will their colleagues think of this person when they come on board? What will the staff thing?

There are hundreds of different things that people look out for when making a decision between different alternatives. That may include with your wife/husband/partner thinks because, in the course of talking through the problem with them, THEY may have a suggestion for how to evaluate what we can’t even consider right now.

Resilience, Not Worry

So, those are a couple of things that go into it.  I hope you enjoy the show!  If you did, I hope you give it 5 stars in iTunes, stitcher or wherever you watch or listen to the show. That’s going to help other people discover the show… And that includes YouTube.  And if you’re interested in my helping you with your job search,  Let me just explain how I can.

1st of all, I want to be clear that I no longer do recruiting. I am not here to place you in a job or help you in that way. Recruiters do that.  I don’t do that anymore. I now coach people into new roles. I can critique your resume and/or LinkedIn profile because, frankly, most of them stink. Then, from there, I can prepare you for interviews, answer your questions throughout the entire job search cycle, help you with negotiations, help you with quitting, and prepare you for the interview, (again, most of you don’t interview well. After all, the skills needed to find a job are different from the skills they are to do a job).

So, if you’re interested in my coaching you, visit my website which is www.thebiggamehunter.us.  There are tabs along the top that will explain how to hire me.

In addition, let me simply suggest that you ask me questions. I will respond to some questions on the show; I can’t respond to all of them, I’m getting a lot.  If you’re interested my doing that,Jobsearchradio@gmail.com will for them to me.  I will pick individual ones to do a show about. NOT LONG STORIES. I DON’T WANT TO READ A MULTIPAGE THING THAT TELLS ME ABOUT YOUR LIFE PROBLEMS.  That has to go through coaching.

I hope you enjoyed today so and hope you have a great day.  Take care!

Roadblocks. Perseverance. Adversity. Resilience. Determination.
