Want To Impress At Your Next Job Interview?
Want To Impress At Your Next Job Interview?

Are you psyched about the job interview you landed? Did you get a call that can change your life as you know it? If this is the case, it is natural to feel over-excited. But keep in mind that getting the interview is only half the battle.

There is still the matter of impressing your potential employer, hence the reason for the following job interview tips.

Whether you have years of work experience and several qualifications behind your name, you still have to go into the interview prepared and ready. Keep in mind that you only get one shot at making the interviewer remember your name.

So take the following job interview tips from Redline and use them in your preparation.

Confidence Shows In Your Body Language

Having confidence during an interview is very important. Hence the reason for going in with your back straight, a nice smile, and a firm handshake. Instead of fidgeting around, sit still and pay attention by making eye contact.

All these elements are going to show the interviewer you are calm, collected, and confident without you having to speak a single word.

Dress Accordingly

Different companies have different policies surrounding the dress code and culture at work. Some want to present a professional and sleek image, which means showing up in formal clothes.

Other companies are more relaxed and laid back, but just to make sure, give the company a call. Find out more about the dress code and what would be appropriate attire for the job interview.

Show Of Your Communication Skills By Listening

A big part of being a great communicator involves the ability to listen. And from the moment the interview gets underway, the interviewer is going to share important information or details.

You are not going to impress anybody when you have to ask the interviewer to repeat what they already said. Plus, take your cues from the interviewer and try to match their style and pace.

Use Your Words Wisely

Every minute during an interview is valuable, mainly because interviews only last a few minutes. Do you really want to waste precious time giving the interviewer too much information that can potentially tank your chances of getting the job?

Or do you use your words wisely and only stick to the topic? Of course, the latter option is your safest bet. Remember, you are there to receive instructions, not give them.

Do Not Get Too Casual

Some interviewers are great in the sense that they make you feel comfortable. But ultimately, it is a test to see whether you can always maintain a level of professionalism. In other words, at no point should you consider the interviewer your new friend.

Essentially, you are interacting with your potential boss, which means you always maintain professionalism. The last thing you want to do is overstep a line because you relaxed too much.

Keep Your Language In Check

It goes without saying that an interview is not really a place to use slang terms. Especially when these terms can be offensive or put you in a negative light. Thus, keep your language clean, professional, and unbiased.

Know The Difference Between Cocky And Confidence

Your attitude is going to have a significant influence on the outcome of the interview. And the line between cocky and confidence can easily be overstepped if you do not pay attention.

Showing too much confidence will present you as somebody who will present more problems than solutions somewhere down the road. And being too reserved can make it seem like you are not a team player. So try to find the balance between these two extremes.

Give Straight Answers

An interviewer will ask questions related to your past experiences because this is how they understand you better. But if you cannot provide straight answers or provide specific examples of previous achievements, the interviewer might consider many of the questions a waste of time.

Prepare Some Questions Of Your Own

At face value, telling the interviewer that you do not have any questions can seem impressive. You understood everything and you are ready to start work, right? The truth is interviewers pay attention to candidates that ask questions. Why? Because it shows a higher level of interest, which can be the difference between getting the job and continuing your search for another one.

Never Seem Desperate

Even though you are desperate for the job, do not show this to the interviewer. They are more than likely to see desperation as a lack of confidence.
