The Farmer’s Market and Branding

Alex Freund, an interview coach, shared his thoughts about going to the farmer’s market early for baked bread. I saw it as an opportunity to discuss branding.
SUNDAY MORNING our local farmer’s market opens at 9 am. I arrived five minutes early to buy the freshly baked Farmers bread. Six people were ahead of me. By the time I left I counted 19 people waiting in line. BTW it was 33 degrees and very windy. The question is WHY? The answer is BECAUSE it is unique and can’t be bought readily elsewhere. How does this apply to jobseekers? The answer is in branding, then marketing and then advertising. This is the right sequence to create a powerful value proposition. If correctly done, job opportunities will come your way. Have you gotten promotions in the past without applying and begging

I replied, “the meta question is what does Farmer’s bread mean to you? It is the emotional connection with the branding that is the meaning. Too many people brand in ways that make them seem ordinary and average rather than unique and special. Farmer’s bread is special to you. That’s how people need to look at their careers. What makes you special in the eyes of others that has value? Farmer’s bread has a certain value for you different than chocolate milk making you willing to go out early on a cold Saturday morning.”
