In this video, Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter tells you the biggest mistake people make with LinkedIn and the simple way to avoid making it.

Summary

Today, I want to talk with you about the biggest mistake people make with LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a great service. It's really "the go to place" for people who are looking for individuals to fill jobs. Why? Because you're telling us exactly what you do. When I consider the mistakes that people make with LinkedIn, there is one mistake that dwarf's all others. It's the one mistake people make that just really cost them dearly. It's not just simply . . . what it really is, is missed opportunities. So here's the mistake that people make time and time again with LinkedIn. Ready?
You never log on. You never know that someone's trying to reach out to you. You never do anything with the site other than set up a profile. How foolish is that?
Recruiters, both corporate and third party, are out there trying to fill positions. Consider those positions as opportunities that you never have to accept where the opportunities presented to you. But, the fact of the matter is, the person who gets ahead isn't always the smartest, they don't always work the hardest, although those are great qualities to have. People get ahead by being alert opportunity. Sometimes those opportunities are internal to the organization; more often than not, far more often than not, they're external to their firm. If you never log on, if you never do anything on LinkedIn, if you never find out that someone's trying to connect with you, never wind up profiting from setting up that profile to begin with.
After all, if you never know someone's trying to reach out to you, if you never do anything to network, if you never do anything to brand yourself, but starting off at the beginning, if you never log on, how will you ever use the service?
