The #1 Reason You Have to Network
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter offers several good reasons why you have to use networking as part of your job search strategy as well as the #1 reason you must do it.
LinkedIn Profile Differentiation
I want to offer you the major reason why you have to go out to do networking to find your next job.
The statistics are, by the way, that 70% of jobs are filled through networking. That’s not the reason.
70% of the 70% or almost half of them occur because of someone that you met that you didn’t know at the beginning of the job search. That’s still not the reason, although it’s a really good one.
Here’s the major reason– almost all the jobs that are available right now are not being advertised. I think the statistic is that 80% of all positions are not currently being advertised. Why are they being advertised? There are many reasons for including the pervasive nature of ” click and apply.” After all, from an employer’s perspective, the ease with which you can apply for a job is allowing you to spam resumes and applications to firms… And you are inundating people. From their vantage point, that’s not a good thing. You are wasting a lot of their time.
The result is they are not advertising as much. This is been going on for a long time, but the pervasiveness of “click and apply” has made this a pervasive strategy for job hunters.
Most jobs are not being advertised. If you are just looking for the ones that are advertised, you are missing a lot of the just don’t exist on the radar screen. You have to go out and network. Even if you are an introvert, you have to go out and network.
How can you network? There are many different ways and I’m going to cover more of them and upcoming shows. That’s your reason. Most jobs are not being advertised and for you to find out about them, you have to be introduced by someone.
