Why Have You Had So Many Jobs? | JobSearchTV


Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter describes what firms are looking to disqualify you when they ask this question.

Summary

Today, I want to offer up 1 of those tough interview is that show up from time to time. The question is, "So, I want that your resume and you have had a lot of jobs. Why be had a lot of jobs?"

You can understand from an employer's perspective that they are hiring someone and they help is like a marriage that last for a long long time and you look like someone who, when the going gets tough, you get going… Out the door.

There are several different ways to approach answering this question. The 1st 1 is, if it happened early in your career, you can point to the fact that when you were young, you didn't have the perspective that you do now for the hills you can acknowledge that and that you wised up. Somewhere along the line.

"I now understand that persistence is sometimes more important than the sometimes alleged again and I start to tough through situations when they got more difficult. "

The 2nd possible way of answering this question is if, some of these changes were because your consultant and you laid out your resume in a way where you just listed each of your individual engagements there and not the consulting firm names, you can very simply say, "Many of what you see, there are consulting assignments where I was only expected to be there for 5 or 6 months. As a matter of fact, some of the engagements ran long, because they like my work so much that they kept me around longer than the original contract was for." That becomes the 2nd way you can address.

A third way, and this is a variation that may apply to more recent economic times, you can point to the economy. "I intended to stay with each of these firms for a long time. However, the economy decimated sectors of our business. Eventually, our firm, in an effort to survive, needed to cut people. I was 1 of the last ones in and became 1 of the 1st ones out. As much as people like my work, and if you check my references you'll find that, I like the work of everyone else in the group and became very much like 'eeny meeny miny mo' when they made their decisions. It wasn't a reflection of my capabilities. It wasn't a reflection on my work. I was told they will provide great references. They basically chop the newest one.

That's how I would handle it from 3 different angles based upon how it was in your career.

Second Interview Questions: Why Should We Hire You? | JobSearchTV.com


Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter explains how to answer this important interview question.

Summary

This 1 is geared toward 2nd interviews. The question I want to offer up is, "So, why should we hire you?" This is been the meta-question that has been behind everything else that is taken place from your phone screen, your 1st in person and now this interview. They want to understand why it is they should choose you from all the other individuals whose resumes they have screened, who they have interviewed, who they are bringing back now on this interview.

To some degree, this is a pretty easy question... If you take a little bit of time to reflect on your previous interviews. That's because, at these interviews, they have given you cues about where their interest really piqued in your background, what they really zeroed in on the cause them to really get excited about you. They may have said something to you. They may have really gone in deep into that part of your background.

At the end of the day, that's what it's really all about. You have to deliver a message to them that really focuses in on their area of interest that causes them to say, "Yeah, that's right." All the stuff that they have signaled in the course of their previous interviews are really what you need to zero in on. You construct the answer by saying, "I'm sure you hear this all the time – – I really have a lot of passion for what I do. I love doing such and such. " Go into detail about that.

"But what really makes me stand out from others is..." You zero in on those qualities that they honed in on in your interview so that in this way, you're playing into what they believe your strengths are, confirm it for them and thus helping them choose you versus your competition. All

One Thing to Get Before Your Second or Final Interview

Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter discusses something you need to get before your second or final interview.

Summary

I'm back with more advice for you for your 2nd or final interview. I have a number of videos about 2nd interviews and I believe there is even a playlist. See you want to watch the playlist of you have already see my other videos about this. I think will be a huge help for you in your preparation. Here's another point I want you to prepare for on your 2nd or final interview.

The point is get the feedback that is been offered so far about your performance. Most people think that if they been invited back, everything is great! I'll tell you a story. When I was working with an agency in New York some years ago, a colleague of mine was scheduling a candidate I was representing on 1st, 2nd, and ultimately final interviews with 1 of her clients. That was all going well. She told me everyone love the guy… bullshit. bullshit. bullshit . . .

It got to a point where the person was turned down. Then she told me what the reluctance had been all along. I was furious. It is all things that he could've addressed very easily on the interview if only he knew.

Here's my point for you. It's really useful to get the feedback from the HR person or from the hiring manager before you need to head of the function. If you're working with a third-party recruiter, get the feedback through them. If the third-party recruiter goes, "EVERYTHING IS GREAT!" Ask them, "could you go back and just say, 'Are there any areas of concern? Any reservations? What do you like? Are there any hesitations?'" Ask questions. The flush up any of the problem areas because there was one thing I learned in my 40+ years of doing search, small problems become BIG PROBLEMS unless they are addressed.

You are always best if you address them in the meeting, are prepared to address them in the meeting , and are proactive in addressing what their hesitation or concern might be... But you need to know what they are. You cannot assume it.

If you cannot get anything or find out something, I want you to think back to your 1st interview or previous interviews and see where the dead spots were, where the uncomfortable things were, where your background doesn't necessarily match up perfectly with the job and how you handled it then and whether you seem to have a receptive audience. Go back and review and that becomes the best that you can do to compensate if you cannot get feedback elsewhere.

Two Second Interview Tricks | No BS Job Search Advice Radio

EP 916 Here I discuss two second interview tricks that will help you bond with people you meet with.

Summary

I have to tricks for 2nd interviews that I think will help you stand out from other people and help build connections on the interview. On previous shows, I spoke about how important is to appear congruent with what you set your 1st interview. That is, if you talked about something at your 1st interview, you want to be consistent with what you say about it at the 2nd interview, right? Otherwise, it makes them scratch their heads and wonder, "Okay. Are they being truthful?"

Here's a little trick. You always want them thinking as though you are part of the team. You always want them thinking that you are 1 of the folks.

Let's say, you're coming back to interview and meeting with someone, you've already spoken with. Maybe was a phone interview. Maybe they were part of the set up before the next group of people. As you speak with them this time, here is what you say, "I was thinking about our last conversation. You spoke about such and such. I was really getting excited about. My mind is been racing about that since we spoke last time and I was wondering if you would tell me a little bit more about that and how I may contribute to this." You just try to get them to talk more because, if you see 1 of my other videos called, "The Headhunter Secret to Knowing If You Did Well on Interviews," the idea is that the more they talk, the more they like you.

It's like you are allowing them to be magnificent and you are just basking in their magnificence and listing adoringly what they say. Always get them to talk by saying, "You know, I was thinking about that last conversation we had it not been thinking about since the time my mind really hasn't stopped mulling that over. Would you tell me a little bit more about that please because it is really very exciting to me?" That's one little trick. Getting them to talk.

The other one I want to bring to your attention today is the, "referring to the other person conversation." Let's say you're speaking to John, Phil, Brenda, whomever in the 1st conversation and there was a point that was made that stuck in your mind. Your meeting with someone new. You say to them, "I was speaking with Brenda last time and she was talking about such and such. It was really very interesting to me. Would you give me your take on that, please. Do you see it the same way she? It was really very exciting."

The idea is that by referencing a person that you spoke with before, you get an idea as to whether they are being congruent, right? For example, if last time you spoke to subordinate and now you're speaking with an overall manager or director or VP, you are getting their take on the role. The ideas always reference something from the previous conversation.

Again, the key piece on this from your standpoint, whatever you reference has to be accurate. You can't just make stuff up because otherwise the scratch their heads and just reject you, assuming that you can be accurate, then referencing the conversation that you had with Brenda asking for their take on it, but some of the position of imagining you in the role, expanding upon what you been told, talking in ways that allow you to see that they are consistent with their thinking because the last thing you want to do is to step into a situation where there is conflict about what your role is going to be and how they are going to measure success.

More of What to Expect on a Second Interview | No BS Job Search Advice Radio

Summary

This is another 1 of those daily shows I do about job search. My channel on YouTube is TheBigGameHunterTV . I have a lot there that you can watch the will help you with your job search. This is a show about 2nd interviews and a few of the things that you can expect of the 2nd interview.

The 1st thing I always tell people that you will meet a whole new crew of people. You already spoken to HR and maybe a line manager. Sometimes all it had you talk to the team; sometimes or have you talked to the user population.

1 of the interesting things about meeting with the business group that this job supports or a different constituency that the job supports is that their agenda is sometimes a little bit different. If you watch my video called, "The Single Best Question You Should Ask on Any Interview," I want to ask that question again of the user population or the 2nd group in order to make sure that you get their thoughts about what they are expecting from someone in the job.

You can't assume that what you been told. up until this point is the same that they are going to be looking for.

I was on intake call yesterday with the hiring manager who is trying to fill a position. It was an IT job and he was talking about what his boss was looking for in hiring him and his replacement (he's to be moving on to another job). We got to a point where we were talking about the user group. It was my turn to ask questions. I asked, "Are they clear about what they are looking for and how does it match up with what you expect to be looking for?"

The cat was now let out of the bag. "Yes, it is going to be complicated because the 2 groups have a different viewpoint of what is to be looked for… Completely different viewpoints." He tried to make the best out of it, but I heard loud and clear that they are on different pages as to how they are doing the interview.

Expect this group is going to go into more detail with your background. Whoever it is, I don't care if you're an IT accounting, engineering, or whatever, expect that they are going to go with the meticulous detail about what you did, how you went about doing it. If you are an IT, the technology that you utilized. Why you made certain decisions… All this sort of stuff that comes up in an interview.

Thus, if they start off with some questioning on the 1st interview that they didn't quite get to complete, expect that they are going to complete it here.

They may pose some behavioral interview situations to you. Some "what if" scenario to you just as a way of seeing how you think. This is more true of higher level positions than it is for staff level jobs AND it sometimes occurs in staff level interviews.

In answering questions like this, remember, you are signaling how you would be as an employee in their organization. You also want to tie your answer into something that you already know about the job. Understand that they are asking these questions for a reason and they are not just simply hypothetical, out of the blue, nonsensical questions... Most of the time. As such, you want to tie the bow on your experience and how you do the job in the context of what they are looking for.

You can expect to talk money with them. Someone is going to ask how much you are making and how much you are looking for. It's almost going to be a casual thing at a certain point in the interview were almost everything has been done so far, but they will cover it at some point. They may talk about next steps… What their expectations are... Frankly, if they don't, I want you to ask about them.

It's kind of like in dating… "So where do we go from here?" You want to ask them, if they don't explain it to you, "I assume that you're talking to other people. When should I expect to hear back from you about next steps? What would those next steps be." It's questions along those lines that you want to pose in a logical break-point in the interview.

So when they ask, "So, is there anything else?" You'll see that they're trying to get out the door... That's really the ideal time to ask this. "I know you have other things to contend with today. I just want to ask you, I assume that you're interviewing other people, when you explode back to complete this round and when can I expect to hear back about next steps."

"Well, we have people schedule between now and doomsday. Sometime around when hell freezes over you will hear back from us." Okay, they have told you that they are not interested. You get where I'm going to from here.

When all is said and done, these are all pretty predictable things that happened on 2nd interviews and things that you should anticipate and be prepared for. I have another few videos on 2nd interviews. Look for those on YouTube. I think you'll find some great value from them as well.
