Stop Hitting The Snooze Button Through Life | NoBSCoachingAdvice.com
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
When I was a kid, I watched cartoons where Mexicans took siestas. Now, we hit the snooze button and delay our lives.
I want to ask you a question.
You’ve got one life. Are you hitting the snooze button through it? Seriously, are you hitting the snooze button through life?
I remember as a kid, I’d watch cartoons. I think they were Warner Brothers cartoons. And invariably, there was this character, I want to say was Pepe LePew. But it could have been someone else. And you get set up in Mexico where people were taking siestas. And we Americans had the opportunity to look askance at those people because they were lazy. They took a siesta every day.
We were kids in school working hard. Our parents were working hard. And now we’re adults and we’re hitting the snooze button. What’s the message? The snooze button is basically
designed to allow us to delay, to delay taking action, to delay getting up, delay, delay, delay. And you may think of the word procrastinate. That’s fine. I use the metaphor of the snooze button.
What are you procrastinating about? What are you hitting the snooze button about? A lifetime is not a long time. I’m going to tell you thatpoint-blankk. I remember when I was 18. I’m not anymore, am I? And the reality is time is running out for all of us.
What do you really need to do? What do you really want to do that you’ve been hitting the snooze button about? I’ll just simply say I remember a time . . . I’m glad . . . let me just put it this way. I’m glad at a certain stage. I shifted from doing what I was expected to do to taking action to satisfy me. And no one’s gotten hurt. Everything’s been fine and doing this professional transition, I’ll just simply say that, you know, for me as a guy in my 60s (now 71), I came to the realization that my career isn’t what I wanted to do. My health wasn’t in the shape that it once was. I needed to take action. And that’s what I’ve done.
I’ve become a coach. I’ve dropped 30 pounds so far more to come but I’ve dropped 30. Starting to get into shape. Working with a trainer. What’s the thing that you’re avoiding? Time to do it. Stop hitting the snooze button.
