I want to talk with you about resume templates today. For ease-of-use, resume templates on your side of the equation are a great boon. They provide a format that you work with. You basically do plug-and-play. You type into certain boxes on your screen, fill them with information. It looks great.

Here's the problem with templates. On the receiver side, often the template doesn't format well. Their screen sizing can be different. An applicant tracking system may not parse as well when they deal with a template.

If you embed a header on top of the resume, some applicant tracking systems won’t parse it and, then, do you really expect them or do you want them to manually type in everything? I know you don’t give a shit, but they do. They often delete the resume in an effort to avoid that.

The fact of the matter is just stare at the template and re-created it on your screen. Don't use the template; re-create the appearance of the template and will be far more effective.
