I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm a coach who helps people professionally in
a number of different ways and I received a question from someone a
little unclear in their language. "Should you attach a cover letter to your resume
if there is no place to upload a cover letter on the job application here's
what I would suggest you can't send the typical cover letter you have to attach
one that demonstrates your fit for the role so page one of your resume will be
the cover letter and then from there page two and three please keep it to two
pages from that point on are going to be your real resume it can't be a cover
letter that says hi I'm forwarding my resume to you for this job I think I'd
be a swell addition to your firm I'm very qualified it can't be that kind of
cover letter because once you're applying through a job you're going
through the black hole the applicant tracking system and as a result you wind
up in a situation where the system isn't seeing the keywords that needs to see
and thus your application and resume will be rejected so what you want to be
doing in making page one the cover letter is say there you know I'm for my
resume to you for the position of whatever the title is it's in the ad or
the job listing). Let me walk you through my how my background fits the role. Flush
left . . . Sorry, flush left, you make the skill or
the requirement of the position that's in the job description flush right you
put in how long and how recently you used that skill if you've never used it
never used that experience, omit it.. But, anything that you've done, flush
left is how long and how recently. Flush right is how long and how
recently so left is the skill right is how long and how recently then page two
begins the resume. The resume has to be congruent with
what's in the cover letter because otherwise they'll think you're lying to
them but I also want to say avoid applying for jobs through the applicant
tracking system because these things are called the black hole for a reason
Try to quickly networks to the hiring manager, you can quickly submit it directly to
them and avoid this problem because as. I've always said never ever apply for a
job through an applicant tracking system. I'm Jeff Alton I hope you found this
