Should Recruiters Work for You?

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

There was a question on Quora rthat asked, “Do people enter the recruiting profession because they want to help job seekers find work or because they want to help companies narrow down job candidates?”

Having worked in the search field for more than 40 years before transitioning to career coaching, I have my opinion about how the game is actually played.

But it raised an interesting question.

Do you think recruiters should be working to help you find a job even though in almost all cases you are paying nothing for their services?

That seems to be the thought process many of you have when you think of recruiters. They are there to find a job for you and most of them do a terrible job of that.

In addition, many of you hate their lack of service, their lying, their perceived incompetence (they couldn’t get me the interview we were talking about), they are trying to ram a square peg into a round hole, all they care about is the fee, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Many employers aren’t much happier even though they control the choice of who they pay.

So let me ask you, again, do you think recruiters should be working to help you find a job even though you are paying them nothing for their services?

Leave a reply below. My asking this is not to criticize an opinion one way or the other. You are right no matter what side you take in this.
