What’s your real job at work? I don’t care if you’re a bookkeeper, a bartender, or an accountant. Whatever your job is, I think your real job is salesman. You’re selling internally, or you’re selling externally. Bartender? You’re selling customers doing an upsell. Accountant? You’re selling people internally to your value, and you’re making sure on the outside people know of your value, too.
Everyone is selling. The question is whether you’re paying attention to the fact that you are a salesman, because if you’re sitting there like a putz, like a lump on a log, thinking your work speaks for itself, it doesn’t. That’s the fact of it. Your work doesn’t speak for itself. You speak for your work. You have to make sure people know about it, and it’s your job to sell it and selling is valuable.

Refreshing view! Recruiters usually want you to switch so they earn their money so they are biased. It is sad that you have to leave or threaten to leave to get a decent raise at most companies.
Employers exercise power and control. As a result, people are taken for granted until they remind management that slavery ended in the US with the Enancipation Proclamation (technically it was only ended in the South but you get the idea).
