POLL: Does your company give homework to job applicants
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
I have been hearing about companies giving homework to candidates for years but wasn’t sure if this was an ordinary everyday occurrence or not. I polled people on LinkedIn. This is what I found:
71% of respondents report their firms don’t give written tests
22% give tests they judge are valid for evaluating people
7% indicate that homework is given when they are not sure.
I wasn’t surprised that so many firms don’t give homework assignments. I was surprised that so few firms use them as tiebreakers when they are not sure. Why not? It does represent an opportunity to view the caliber of someone’s work (or, at a minimum the ability to see how they mobilize a team of people to help them cheat).
