Phone Interviews and Video Interviews
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
Someone wrote, “Before the interview, make sure you have a quiet, comfortable, and professional space to conduct the call. Test your equipment, such as your camera, microphone, and internet connection, and avoid any potential distractions, such as pets, children, or background noise. You may also want to have some notes, a copy of your resume, and a glass of water handy, but don’t rely too much on them during the conversation.
I replied:
Phone interviews are easier and harder than video interviews. An interviewer cannot be influenced by what you wear or how good looking you are. They only have your voice to go by. On the other hand, they can’t see that you have your resume in front of you, that you are taking notes on it as a reminder of talking points for your answers. For video interviews, people are influenced by your size on camera so use a laptop and pull it toward you so you have more presence on camera. Get a ring light. Don’t point it at yourself. Point it away from you so it bounces off that surface & reflects onto your face. Use PostIt notes for reminders of things to talk about. Put the notes around the frame of your laptop so they can’t see you glancing at them.
Why Do More Companies Rely on Video Interviews?
