smiley face vs frowny face

🙂 or ☹

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

Choice: an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities.

Sacrifice: a: destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else

b: something given up or lost

Choice involves making a decision between alternatives. It is value neutral. There is no pain. There is no suffering. It is simply a decision.

Sacrifice is also a choice but one that has something extra to it.

There is a giving up that occurs that is painful. It is not value neutral. There is an emotional component on top of the choice.

When you tell people you are making a sacrifice, you are signaling a burden.

If it’s the right thing to do, even when it is a hard thing to do, make it a choice or decision.

If there is too much loss or pain to it, don’t do it.

“I’m losing so much money on this.”

“It hurts me to do this.”

“I wish I didn’t have to.”

All our signals of a sacrifice because of the tone to the remark.

Things don’t have to be sacrifices.

They can be choices.

Being nice is a choice.

Being mean or ornery is a choice, just like being nasty is a choice.

How do you want to live your life?

Can you make every day like Christmas without the presents by having a generous spirit and open-heart?

Can you experiment with walking through life with a smile on your face instead of a scowl?

Who will people enjoy seeing more — 🙂 or ☹

Which one do you think will help you day feel better?

Life doesn’t have to feel as badly for you. Most of you have upper-class problems by comparison to much of the world.

Your plumbing works.

Your biggest complaint is that there is nothing on TV.

You have money in the bank (I’ll let you in on a secret. It never seems like there’s enough).

Your biggest complaint is that you’re stuck in the house and can’t go to a restaurant for dinner.

Whoop-de-do.

By comparison the many people in the world you have it good.

To them, you have the privilege of choices and your sacrifices are trivial.

Merry Christmas.

It’s Christmas for you every day.

Smile.

You’ll feel better and so a lot of people.
