No BS Career Advice: August 2, 2027

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

Our wedding anniversary was yesterday and as we’ve done for many years we spent it apart – my wife in the late country of England and me now in Asheville. We spoke and we’ll celebrate when she gets back and gets reacclimated to time zones. Twenty-seven years. It has been a lovely ride together.
This book took years to write and I released it on Friday. I began writing Resumes That Work: The No BS Playbook for Laptop Professionals to Leverage AI, Refine Their Story, and Get Interviewed eight or nine years ago and kept putting it down. I’m glad I did because it would have been so out of date given the effects of AI and the changes that have occurred as a result of it.
This book will get you through applicant tracking systems and people to have your resume seen. It points out a lot of the flaws that people have that prove so damaging.
These self-inflicted wounds may be why you aren’t getting interviews.
As I have been doing, I released the book for $4,99 for a limited time and will be increasing the price at the end of next week. For less than $5 you’ll be able to figure out how to improve your resume and get better results from it.
AI-Powered Research Meets Low-Friction Outreach
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
The fundamental failure of professional networking on LinkedIn comes down to two major flaws: deference and generic automation.
When most people reach out to someone at a target company, they default to lower-status social begging. They land in an inbox asking to “pick your brain for 15 minutes,” “have a virtual coffee,” or “discuss potential synergies.” This immediately shifts the mental load onto a busy person, asking them to do uncompensated labor for a stranger.
To fix this, many job hunters turn to AI. But they use it as a cheap ghostwriter, generating walls of synthetic enthusiasm, using phrases like “I hope this finds you well” or “In today’s fast-paced climate,” that trigger spam filters.
You do not build real connections by begging for time, nor by sending automated spam. You build leverage through Outreach Parity: using artificial intelligence to run deep research on a company’s real pain points, and then delivering a concise, human, low-friction observation that positions you as a valuable peer.
Here is a framework to combine AI-driven intelligence with high-conversion outreach at any level of your career.
Step 1: Construct the AI Diagnostic Matrix
Decision-makers, whether they are team leads, department directors, or founders, do not care about generic praise or standard resume bullet points. They care about fixing operational headaches, saving time, protecting margins, and hitting deadlines.
Instead of asking an LLM to “write a networking message,” use it as a private Chief of Staff to analyze public data and identify hidden friction points within your target organization.
Gather unstructured public inputs from the company:
- Transcripts from recent investor calls, podcast interviews, or panel discussions featuring team leaders.
- Recent product releases, customer review trends, or public forum discussions about their workflows.
- Industry news highlighting macro shifts impacting their specific business model.
Feed these inputs into an AI model of your choice with a structured diagnostic prompt:
“Analyze these materials from the perspective of an operational consultant. Identify the top two structural bottlenecks or project execution risks this team will likely face over the next two quarters. Cross-reference these risks with my core background in [Your Specialization] and generate a concise observation highlighting the exact friction point and the metric at risk.”
In under two minutes, the AI processes messy data into a clinical intelligence report. You are no longer guessing what the team needs; you possess a clear, data-backed view of their active operational challenges.
Step 2: Package the Asymmetric Value Asset
Once AI isolates a primary friction point, don’t dump raw data into someone’s LinkedIn inbox. Professional communication relies on brevity and clear value.
Use AI to refine your findings into an Asymmetric Value Asset — a brief, one-page framework or two-sentence observation that offers insight with zero obligation.
Filter your raw findings back through the system using this directive:
“Compress this observation into a direct, two-sentence peer-level note. Strip away all corporate fluff, pleasantries, and self-promotional language. Focus strictly on the operational hurdle, the risk metric, and a practical mitigation tactic. Ensure the tone reflects clinical brevity.”
Once you get the output, apply a strict 80/20 Rule. Let AI handle the 80% heavy lifting of research and data structuring, but take 20% to manually edit the message. Inject your own voice, vary the sentence cadence, and ensure it reads like an internal note rather than a sales pitch.
Step 3: Deploy the Low-Friction Value Hook
When you send your message, eliminate all friction. Do not ask for a 30-minute phone call. Do not ask them to review your resume. Offer an immediate, zero-risk resource.
Here is how this approach looks across different career levels:
For an Operations Specialist / Project Coordinator
“I’ve been tracking your team’s expansion into automated customer onboarding this quarter. Having navigated a similar rollout at my last firm, I noticed that drop-off rates typically spike by about 12% in month two if third-party API verifications aren’t streamlined early. I put together a 1-page checklist on how we insulated our onboarding metrics against that drag. No strings attached — let me know if you want me to drop the notes over to your team.”
For a Senior Manager / Department Lead
“I’ve been following your department’s regional warehouse integration. Based on similar restructurings I’ve led, inventory synchronization logic usually leaks about 14% in margin velocity during month three if legacy databases aren’t decoupled early. I put together a brief 1-page framework on how we protected our numbers during that cutover. No strings attached. Let me know if you’d like me to pass the framework over.”
Notice the psychological shift in both examples. Neither note begs for a job or demands time. Both identify a concrete operational liability and offer a zero-friction resource.
The Bottom Line
Effective networking isn’t about glad-handing, and it isn’t about blasting hundreds of generic, AI-generated messages into the void.
Use AI to run the deep preparation most people skip. Uncover the real operational challenges your target peers are dealing with, package your expertise into crisp solutions, and open the conversation with clear value. That is how you command respect, skip the line, and pull genuine career opportunities to you.
