Networking from Anywhere: The Power of Online Communities

Networking from Anywhere: The Power of Online Communities

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

Especially with many people working from home, so many forget to network and don’t know how to network as someone who rarely leaves their home office. Here’s an easy way.

Networking and Keeping Score

I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I started to be called The Big Game Hunter when I did recruiting, because I would hunt down leaders and staff for organizations. I did it successfully for a long time. And now people hire me for no BS job search coaching and career advice globally, because I make finding work and succeeding at it much easier. Today I’m looking at a crucial aspect of job search or professional growth, the impact of online communities whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting your career journey.

Engaging in forums, Slack channels or Discord servers can be a game changer. Online communities are virtual hubs where professionals connect, share insights and ideas, and collaborate. These platforms offer a wealth of opportunities to network, learn and grow, regardless of your location.

Research suggests that active participation in such communities can significantly enhance your professional development and open doors to new opportunities.

How do you do it? Seek out forums, Slack channels or Discord servers aligned with your profession or interests. Initially, observe conversations and discussions to understanding community norms and interests before actively participating. Share insights, ask questions and engage in discussions aimed to add value to the community. Build genuine connections by being helpful, supportive and respectful in your interactions. Regularly engage to establish your presence and credibility within the community.

These communities serve as knowledge pools allowing you to exchange ideas, seek advice and even find potential collaborators or mentors. Joining or starting your journey in online communities is more than networking. It’s about fostering meaningful connections that can propel your career forward.

So take the plunge and engage and witness the incredible benefits these communities can offer.

I hope you found this helpful. I’m Jeff Altman. Join me at JobSearch.Community. We’re have free resources available to help you with your job search.
