Lying on Your Application

Lying on Your Application

How Do I Find Out Why My Job Application Has Been Rejected?

A newly elected Congressman from New Your State has been found to have “embellished the truth” (AKA lied) on his resume. By the way, it took two campaigns, one unsuccessful, and the current successful one, to discover the truth

He did not graduate college as he claimed, work for Citigroup or Goldman Sachs, or have a family-owned real estate portfolio. In addition, he also forgot toPinocchio mention that he owed thousands in unpaid rent. Despite being in debt, he did not discuss how he was able to reverse his fortunes and lend his campaign $700,000. There is also an indication he confessed to a crime in Brazil but authorities in that country were unable to locate him to act further.

I warned Jack and Donald prior to their joining new firms that each was joining a firm that did background checks. Yet each lied about something of significance on their application (a degree when none was needed and job history). By Friday of their first week of employment, they were met by security at their desks with a box containing their personal belongings and escorted from their workplace. Notice, I said application, not resume or LinkedIn profile.

Politicians and the media that are supposed to help curate the politicians don’t do as good a job as organizations that do actual #backgroundchecks. Background-checking firms find it easy to locate many “inconsistencies” including financial misconduct that can be a problem for a new employer.

And sometimes, divulging a conviction at the time of an offer as happened to someone else I represented when I was still doing search allows a firm to investigate the circumstances and allow them to be comfortable with hiring someone.
