Is your job search overwhelming you? Do you find yourself applying to every job that seems remotely interesting without having much success. I’m going to be here today to tell you that less may be more when it comes to job searching. In fact, simplifying your job search can lead you to greater success and here are reasons why.
Marketing Yourself Like a Headhunter
I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS coaching and career advice globally. Because I make things so much easier for people related to job search, hiring more effectively, managing and leading better, dealing with workplace issues and much more.
So here are reasons why less may be more for you. Number one, by focusing on quality over quantity, by narrowing your job search only to positions you’re qualified for and truly interesting to you and aligned with your goals, you can put in more effort into tailoring your resume and applications and doing networking into the job rather than just simply spamming your resume. It gives you a better chance of getting noticed.
Number two it’s going to save time and energy because when you’re not applying to every position under the sun, you’ll have more time and energy to dedicate to the jobs you do apply for. This means you can craft personalized cover letters, tailor your resume, follow up with the hiring manager, network your way to employees of the firm who might provide an introduction for you, I should say and receive an employee referral bonus if you they wind up hiring you, and being able to research the firm before any interview.
Third, it avoids burnout. Applying to so many jobs can lead to burnout, frustration, and depression. Thus by simplifying your search and focusing on positions that truly excite you, you’ll be more motivated and enthusiastic throughout the process. When you focus on fewer jobs, you can dedicate more time to networking with people in your field. This can lead to more connections, and even potential job opportunities that wouldn’t have been discovered otherwise.
And to me, this is almost the most important thing I’m going to mention. It improves your interview performance because when you’re not spreading yourself so thin applying to so many jobs, you’ll have more time to research the firm and prepare and practice for interviews. Thus, you’ll be able to answer questions more confidently and more likely impress the hiring manager.
So those are reasons why I think less can be more than a job search. By simplifying your search and focusing on quality over quantity, you can increase your chances of success and find the job that you want.
