What should I consider if I’m considering a new career?
You want to know where the jobs are, both geographically and by industry, as well as what kind of occupations employers are searching for. Your training decisions will be influenced by this.
What should I do if I want to make a career plan?
The Occupational Outlook Handbook contains a list of over several hundred vocations, together with wage information, job descriptions, and training requirements. Job counselors from different walks of life use it.
State labor market information bureaus try to bring as much information [about job openings] as possible, with a focus on persons with lower levels of education.
Employers and employees can discover each other through state workforce agencies. They usually provide resources and initiatives to assist with job hunting.
Is there anyone out there who makes effective use of government data on this subject?
The United States has just the most basic data, much of which is collected through the unemployment insurance system.
The BLS may not have access in-depth information, and it has no influence over the surveying.
Why isn’t the BLS collecting more data?
Its statistical system has been underfunded for a long time.
