Search firms have their own ‘blacklists’. Robert Half, Office Team- etc- all owned by the same company.

As far as the employment agencies are concerned, filing for unemployment after a contract assignment ends will get you on the black-list for sure. You can pretty much forget about ever getting work from them again. Although there is not a centralized database, many of these agencies are one-in-the-same due to mergers (like Jennifer mentioned).

I reopened my UI claim when my contract ended. Does that mean the recruiter won’t call me again? The unfortunate thing is that I can’t afford no money coming in until the next contract comes up.

I was speaking from my own experience as a contract worker and a temp recruiter in a previous life. Your situation might be totally different, especially if the client gave you a glowing review about your work. You did the right thing. You need to keep a roof over your head and food on the table until you get work again regardless.

I agree, I keep track of people who are no shows for face to face interviews. If they claim they drive power equipment and fail Prove It Testing, there is a note where I probed further. If they use poor judgement calling excessively causing business interruption and don’t use voice mail, I remember that. 100% agreement. Doing temp to hire work, anyone who just doesn’t bother to show up with excessive attendance issues.

How do you get off of Robert halfs blacklist? I cancelled my second interview and any further job she presented me with. I felt uncomfortable and slightly bullied into it. I did well and I was very qualified but I felt mismanaged. It wasn’t just about money Thoughts?

    1. Jeff Altman

Each office will probably keep notes about their system. The best way to get that changed is having marketable skills that they think they can place in a job.

+Jiani Henderson You are welcome. Recruiters can act like billies, particularly the contingency ones because their income is tied to you taking their job and they are watching a large amount of money evaporate. In saying that, I am not justifying their behavior, just explaining it. If they can push you into a job, they can make the mortgage payment, go to dinner, get some expensive sneakers and feel great about themselves.

+Jeff Altman I can understand that. to be honest I just need to be more assertive next time and say no when I think I should.

@Jeff Altman so true. I thought about that even though second opinion disagreed with her. I suppose it was how she went about it. I am definitely not above advice and correction. I am happy to recieve when it helps with growth.
