Interview Attire for Men: Shoes
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
I once wrote, “Don’t wear flip-flops, sneakers, loafers, sandals, etc. If it isn’t a dress shoe, don’t even think about it! Further, make sure it matches your suit. If you have a black or gray suit, wear black shoes. Don’t show up in white shoes, pink shoes, blue shoes, etc..”
Two Questions About Building Consensus
It seems pretty funny as I look back at it now.
Dress for the organization you are interviewing with.
Some organizations would reject you for wearing a suit and dress shows. Someone will reject you for the opposite.
Let me speak to you in language you’ll understand.
Women will rarely go to an interview looking bad. They will usually present themselves as their best selves.
Men, on the other hand, have become lazy dressers. Too often, you are underdressed for your interviews and even if you are offered a job, it may be for a little less than what you wanted.
Dress as though you were meeting someone important to you because you are. Dressing in your “C” wardrobe (as opposed to A or B) is lazy.
Think about presenting yourself as world-class whatever that means to you.
Dress world-class. Be world-class.
Be great!
