By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

You’re coming back for a final interview. How should you prepare and how should you present yourself?

Nailing the Virtual Interview: 16 Tips and Lessons Learned

Hi I’m Jeff Altman. People hire me for no BS job search coaching and career advice globally, because I make finding a new job and succeeding in it easier. Congratulations on making it to the final round of interviews. This is where it all will come together, where you showcase yourself at your absolute best. I’m here to share a few reminders with you to help you not just Executivepass but truly excel in your final interview, so they want to extend the offer to you.

A caveat. I can’t help you be better at what you do. If you aren’t qualified, you shouldn’t get the position. I want to help you present yourself as you are at your best, so they want to choose you.

A final interview for you isn’t just about reiterating your qualifications. They already know you’re qualified. It’s about demonstrating yourr fit with the company’s culture, and showcasing your problem solving abilities and leadership.

Employers are looking for more than just skills. They want someone who aligns with their values, and can adapt seamlessly to their team.

Before going in, dig deeper into the company’s challenges or pain points. Offer subtle solutions or fresh perspectives during the interview. Frame your comments as “I’m sure you’ve considered . . . ” then offer one or two ideas. What happened when you tried those,” or “why didn’t you try those.” It’s not about criticizing, but about showing your proactive mindset and genuine interest in their success.

Craft compelling stories that illustrate your experiences and successes. Make them vivid and relatable because stories stick in people’s minds far better than mere bullet points on a resume. Your story should align with their values and highlight your leadership and problem solving abilities.

Don’t just answer questions. Ask them, too. Prepare insightful questions about their plans, challenges they foresee or team dynamics. It shows your genuine interest and commitment to understanding the role and the firm deeply.

Identify your unique selling propositions. What makes you stand out? How are you different than the three other people they’ll be meeting with on this round? Is it your adaptability or innovation? Your leadership style? Showcase these strengths confidently and align them with their needs.

Remember, no BS. After all, one of your differentiators is you. So be authentic and genuine. Employers can sense honesty and have well-cultivated BS detectors at their level. They’re not just hiring your skills. They’re welcoming you into their work culture. Authenticity creates a stronger connection, making you a more memorable candidate.

Remember, this final interview is your opportunity to seal the deal and make a lasting impression. It’s not just about answering questions. It’s about showcasing your value, fitting into their culture and demonstrating how you’re the perfect puzzle piece they’re looking for.
