How to Get Recruiters to Contact You on LinkedIn

How to Get Recruiters to Contact You on LinkedIn | JobSearchTV.com

People who are looking for work are often upset that no one is contacting them on LinkedIn. Here are five things that you can do to improve your odds.

The Top 10 Salary Negotiation Mistakes

I have a good profile on LinkedIn but no one’s contacting me what’s wrong? I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. This is a common lament that people have, because they haven’t really thought like the recruiters do. They’ve created a profile that they think represents themselves well, but they’re not attracting people to them. So five simple things that you can do.

Number one is to write your profile using terms that recruiters search for. “How do I know what they look for? Look at ads, look at the terms and the language that’s used in the job descriptions that define what they’re looking for and what you’ll be doing. Use the exact same language, but don’t just look at one ad; look at at least 10 that you would apply for, for which you’re really qualified. So, exact language, no abbreviations, because abbreviations when they’re searching, they’re not looking for Sr. They’re looking for the word senior, right? So think like they do, and also incorporate language that makes sense for them.

Make sure that your picture is a good picture, because if you look like a sociopath, once they find you, they’re probably not going to contact you. The next thing is to make sure your location is correct. Now I know for some parts of the United States, they use the term ‘area’ like ‘New York metropolitan area.’ Perhaps in the about area, you might indicate where you are. For example, in New Jersey, or Westchester or Long Island, to demonstrate proximity to where their client would be. After all, if you live in New Jersey, and their job is on Long Island, well, that’s going to be hard for you to get to, right? And they don’t know where you are. So just give them a heads up about that. Any certifications help you as well.

So, again, as a quick summary, make sure your profile is searchable for the terms and language they would use to find someone. Make sure your photo’s a good one, your location demonstrates where you really are, your title uses language that they might search for in terms of finding someone. And lastly, make sure you have any sort of certifications, because that’s a differentiator for them to want to locate someone. Because again, on their side, they have a tool that lets them search for multiple criteria, not just simply keywords, but there are fields for certifications and location, and much more.
