In sports, there are individual players who are referred to as “game changers.”
What makes them that?
They have an unusual ability for their time to make others accommodate them and their strengths.
In organizations, it is common to try to level everyone, rather than allow them to be at their best.
After all, there are many individuals who have affected the world in amazing ways who would never be hired by most corporations because they are not “team players.”
Great coaches and great leaders hire people and focus on their strengths and bring those into the organization dramatically.
That’s the gift in their system— recognizing that a person is talented isn’t good enough. There are a lot of very talented people.
What makes an ordinary organization extraordinary is recognizing that talent and exposing it to the sunlight so they can be magnificent and change the game, not just for them, but to change the game for everyone.
