Engage and Retain Your Talent

LinkedIn invited me to participate in a collaborative article about “How can you stand out from competitors in the global talent market.” In a section called, “Engage and retain your talent,” it said:
“Engaging and retaining your talent is as important as attracting them. It can help you reduce turnover, increase productivity, and boost morale. It can also help you build a strong employer brand, as satisfied and loyal employees can become your advocates and ambassadors. To engage and retain your talent, you need to provide them with meaningful work, clear goals, regular feedback, and recognition. You also need to support their well-being, work-life balance, and career aspirations.”
My contribution was to point out “This is where employer branding often fails–there is a disconnect between marketing and reality. What a hiring manager and his/her team say in an interview often does not match with reality. It is a reason why employee engagement statistics are so poor. It is better for a firm to scare off hires with the reality of their circumstances and conditions than lie to people and be exposed through social media and stories.”
