Employer Branding: Bring Career Path Conversations Back Into Your Interviews

Building your employer brand is about becoming an employer of choice. One way to do that is to bring discussions of career path back into your interviews.
If you want to build an employer brand, if you want to become an employer of choice, start bringing career path discussions back into your interviews. And of course, once someone’s on board, deliver.
Why do I say this? Most people get hired for what they can deliver today. And they don’t want to do the same job for the next 20 years of their life. They want to have a sense of what their future’s like if they perform, if they deliver.
Obviously, there are no guarantees and you can hedge your statement to people, but people want to have hope. They have dreams. And if the next time they’re going to hear about their future is at their exit interview, you’re making a mistake here that’s going to prove very costly, result in far more turnover than you need to have. Because you’re not really focusing on your people and their needs while they’re working hard for you.
