Mastering the Pivot: Your Career Reinvention Guide
When people hear the term Ikigai, they may know the definition, which, if you don’t, it’s the intersection of what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs, and what you can get paid for. It’s gorgeous, but people misuse the term and they focus on the beginning—what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs, maybe—and they lose sight of the “what you can get paid for” part of it. And thus, the focus on what you love and what you’re good at will swamp you if you pay too much attention to it.
What you really need to do is think in terms of product market fit—how what you’re offering fits what the world needs so that in this way you can make a living. If you’re transitioning careers, it’s one thing to do work that you love; it’s another thing to do work that you love that you can get paid for. So don’t lose sight of that.
