In this video, Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter discusses what you should do once you decide to change jobs.
I’m Jeff Altman the Big Game Hunter, and let’s talk today about the decision, or considering, um, why you want to change jobs now. You found this video like others have because you’re thinking about changing jobs. You’re wondering whether or not it’s the right thing to do. It probably is, but there are some exceptions to consider.
Number one is if there are financial reasons why you really should stay. For example, you have some sort of loan from your current employer that you’d have to repay immediately if you resigned your job and you can’t afford to do so. That’s one very valid reason. Another one would be is if you have a mediocre job history, and it would be emphasized yet again if you change jobs prematurely, that would be another reason. But generally, if you’re finding this video, there’s something unsettling about your current employment situation. Maybe your boss is an imbecile. Uh, maybe you stopped learning a while ago. Um, whatever it is, it’s time to go.
Now I want you to get clear about what the problems are. Write them down, because what’ll happen is in the course of your job search, you’re going to forget some of these things and later on have to make a decision. And sometimes you’re going to contend with a counter offer where an employer is going to go, “But why? We love you, you’re so important to us. Please stay. Don’t go. We need you. Don’t, how much it’s going to take? How much? How much? How much?” And, you know, yes, I’m caricaturing there quite obviously, but sometimes people forget what’s in their interest and get bought back in, and nothing’s really changed. So I’ll start off by saying, write down your reasons for wanting to leave. That’s a great starting place in beginning the search.
Because if you flip that around and start looking at what you’re looking for in the next job or organization, you’ll find some things that you’re going to need to evaluate and assess for when you interview. So this is Jeff Alman. I hope you found this video helpful. If you did, you’re watching on YouTube, share it, leave a comment, click the like button. Just do something, huh? It lets people know it was worthwhile.

A few final things. First of all, if you have questions about job search, congratulations, you’re not alone. The mistake most people make is they try to figure it out on their own, which means you’re going to lose out on opportunities by making mistakes.
