I have sat in circles of man for almost 30 years now giving support and receiving support. It is help me become the man that I am. I know I have helped others. It is part of the culture in the circles to offer support, and with time, Karen love for the members.
I said in a new circle for me last night. I was welcomed by the other 14 men who already knew of me but not deeply. It was a joy.
When you think of your own organization and the people you work with (because it’s really only in our own departments or groups that we can measure culture), When you think of your own organization and the people you work with Do you feel accepted for who you are or you feel compelled to “put on an act?”
Do you feel like advancement is stacked against you because your someone who is not born in the United States and has an accent?
Do you feel like an outsider or an insider?
Our people welcoming to you or little cool?
There are so many other questions you know you could ask but most of you already have the answer. If you don’t like the answer, is there anything you think you can do to change it?
It’s not enough to just do your job well if you want to advance. You have to be seen, known, liked, trusted and respected. Sometimes, a champion makes all the difference in the world. Who can be your champion at your firm?
How do you make yourself seen as being “world-class?” After all, we know that mediocrity will never be rewarded to the same degree as excellence whether that is internal to your current organization or external.
What’s the culture your firm and what can you do to change your experience of it?
