Communicating a Rejection

Communicating a Rejection

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

One of the hard things I had to deal with when I did search was communicating a rejection when what I had to go on was “There was nothing wrong. We chose someone else.” Even then, I was able to offer the courtesy of telling someone, “One of the hardest things I have to do is tell someone they were not chosen for a position they truly wanted. Unfortunately, that is the case with you. I will continue to see if I can identify other opportunities that I believe would make sense for you.”

It is an unfortunate truth that my institutional customers would not be willing to express the tiebreakers that caused one person to be selected over another.
