Bringing Your “A” Game | No BS Coaching Advice
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
What’s keeping your from bringing it to everything you do?
Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I’ve been coaching people in one aspect of work, in life for a hell of a long time. This video is about bringing your A game and what’s keeping you from doing it? What’s keeping you from playing the game at the highest levels, and being elite.
You see, for many people, and I have to say, myself included, there are times I’m afraid of taking action. I’m afraid of failing. I’m afraid of looking badly. Probably the same is true of you, too. But, you know, ultimately, what’s happening is you’re not playing at your best capacity. You’re holding back because fears is ruling you. I did an interview with Aaron Walker for my podcast, Job Search Radio, where he spoke with the about how you can really only control the things you can control; you him can’t really control the outcomes.
And, the biggest fear that you should have is not taking action and that once you take action, basically, you know, your future should go away. Because at the end of the day, although you think you can control the outcomes, you really don’t.
But I want to close out with a story and I think this story can be very helpful to you. It’s a story about dragons living in the wild. And it seemed like all dragons are relatives of one another. And this story is no exception. The young dragon was separated from his parents. So, he was adopted by a cow or a pig. And he lived with them on a farm where he ate grass and never exhaled fire.
One day, some years later, an adult dragon flies overhead and see the young one below and eating grass swoops down, takes him in his teeth, flies him up to the heavens and drops him. The young dragon is plummeting, terrified. And just before it gets to the ground, the old dragon swoops in, takes him up the skies again, and drops him again. Same thing happens repeatedly. Until at one point, the young dragon starts flapping his wings and flying. And what also happens is he starts to breathe fire for the first time in his young life.
For many of you, you’ve stopped breathing fire. You’ve stopped flying, and you become domesticated and what coaching can do for you is to gradually bring out this natural self that you have and help you overcome your fear of flight and help you become the champion that you want it to be.
Whether this is true in sports, in business, with life, rather than become domesticated animal, what you have the opportunity to do is to be a leader in life that you know you can be but are afraid of becoming.
