Belief | Career Angles

There’s an old joke about the man who prays to G-d that he wins the lottery. He prays for days on end when suddenly he hears thunder and sees lightning and the heavens part an incredibly bright light appears. Suddenly, a booming voice is heard only by him.

“Meet me halfway. Buy a lottery ticket!”

There are people who act as though having a positive attitude will get them everything that they want in their life and in their career.

There is ample evidence that indicates that positive attitude is not sufficient. Belief and positive attitude is not sufficient.

You need to do the hard work when no one’s looking to make it possible.

I spent a year training to run the New York marathon.

I told many people to beginning I was going to run it and they were very happy for me. And then they all disappeared I was left to do the work, getting up early in the morning to get my roadwork in, gradually increasing my mileage to the point where I was doing a long run of 20 miles in anticipation of the race.

In the last week before the marathon, all my friends called to confirm I was still running and were very happy for me . . . A few chewed me on on race day. I even asked one of them to run with me for a few miles to help propel me further.

I did the work that no one else was willing to do and finished the race.

Although I believed I would finish, that was not enough to get me to finish.

What got me there was the hard work along the way when no one was looking that got me across the finish line.
