By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
I love what AI can do to help job hunters, however not everyone does AND not all resumes and cover letters created by it are good, let alone good enough.

Interview Mistakes: Vomiting on People
Be careful using AI to write your resume and cover letter. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS career advice, and job search advice globally, because I make the process so much easier for people. Now, there was a survey I saw that pointed to the fact that companies are not very fond of the idea of entry-level candidates using AI to write their resumes and cover letters. They went so far as to say it’s a definite deal breaker. And on the other hand, I understand why you might want to use it– because it makes it easier. After all, using AI to write an application, to write your resume or cover letter. . . it’s a marketable skill. And more and more firms are incorporating AI. So I understand the hypocrisy here.
But, you know, again, you have to understand what the AI may generate for you. Ideas are okay. But you have to recognize that some of the things that it will issue, some of the things that it will write, are nonsense, they’re boring, they’re using unnecessary superlatives, or flowery language that doesn’t make sense in business. Also, it may not accurately represent you. Thus, it’s one thing to have a resume that accurately depicts your background. On the other hand, if it misleads or has inaccurate information, you have to correct that. You can’t just send it as though it’s really you.
Remember, whether it’s a hiring manager, a third-party recruiter, or a corporate recruiter, these people are not idiots. They can spot something that’s canned and not personal to them and their organization.
Again, it’s one thing to learn a better new technology and incorporate it into your work. It’s another thing to use it and use it incorrectly to try to advantage yourself but unintentionally hurt yourself.
