Ask Yourself These Questions Before Applying

Terrence H. Seamon is a New Jersey-based coach who I’ve known for many years and interviewed for Job Search Radio when I started interviewing for that podcast.
Terrence shared a post on LinkedIn I thought was worthy of sharing with you:
“Job seekers, whenever you are about to apply online to a job opening that looks interesting to you, ask yourself the following three questions:
1.Do you know anyone that works at that company? If so, reach out to them to let them know you have your eye on Job XYZ and are applying. Seek their insights. Ask for their advice.
2.Do you know anyone that used to work there? If so, reach out to them for the same reason as #1 above. Ask them why they left and if they would recommend that company. Ask them if they still have any contacts there.
3.Do you know how to use LinkedIn to identify employees at that company that might be willing to connect and chat? Use the filters that LI provides to find employees with affinity points (aka commonalities) such as the college you both went to, p
.ast employers you both worked for, and keywords in job titles.
Many job seekers apply online but fail to reach out to make human contact in the organization in question. Making contact with someone can give you the competitive edge.”
I am not a fan of applying for jobs. After all, the ATS is called “the black hole” for a reason.” Terrence’s suggestion is the best way to go about it.
