Are Final Interviews a Formality

Are Final Interviews a Formality? |

Too often, people hear that final interviews are “a formality.”

Preparing for a Final Interview by Video

Are final interviews a formality? No. Usually, they’re are situations where they’re committing to make a final decision. And in the process, you’re usually going to be competing with one or two other people who may also believe that this is a formality. And your goal is to impress that senior leader.

Why? Because even if you’re the best of a mediocre a lot, they may have the idea that there’s someone better out there, who they could try and get. So you’re always competing, even with the idea that maybe there’s someone else better out there.

Also, since this is the person who ultimately you’re going to report to, it’s like a parent– you want to make sure that your parent sees you as being a good person, someone valuable, because it immediately reflects upon them and you’re upside upon joining.

So it’s not a formality. What it is, is an opportunity to shine in front of the person who’s a rung or maybe two rungs above the person to whom you’re going to report. And you always want to create great impressions.
