Breaking Into the Cannabis Industry | JobSearchTV.com

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

Your interest in this field can lead to a rewarding career. Here are ways to break into the cannabis industry.

Your interest in growing cannabis in your apartment may help you transition into a job in the field. How do you do it? How do you break into the legal cannabis industry? Lots of different ways. And that’s what the subject of this video is about.  So number one, let me just start by saying there’s no perfect way to break in. 321,000 people found jobs in the cannabis industry as of 2021 and it is of course growing as more states legalize cannabis throughout the country. But what do you do? How do you break in?

Number one is you’ve got to do some homework. Is there a cannabis business you’d love to work for? Go to their website; Google them. See what kind of jobs they have available. Learn about what they do, how they do it, and remember, no two businesses are alike. The more that you learn about a company’s needs and challenges, the more that you become interesting to them.

The Connector’s Advantage

Number two, start going to industry events and networking with people who are in the field already. That becomes a way you can get introductions to businesses and people who are already in the field who might want to hire someone like you. You can find some of these people on LinkedIn. Do a search for people and the term cannabis in your geographic area.

Number three is start working your virtual networks. So regardless of your zip code, you can start finding people who are in this field already, and find networks on Facebook, on LinkedIn, or Insta or Twitter that will help you connect with people who might be able to bring you into the field.

Number four is consider proximate work. So whether that’s in marketing, web design, graphic design, writing, event planning, accounting, legal work, because every firm needs to do accounting and legal work, these are ways that you can leverage certain types of experiences that you have and relate them to cannabis.

There are online job boards, that’s number five. And in looking at the job boards, again, it doesn’t have to be still directly in cannabis. But remember, they hire people to do licensing, sales account management, HR, ops, operations assistants, social media interns, extract technicians, and much much more. People that work in dispensaries around the country.

There are staffing firms, that’s number six. Do a Google search for cannabis staffing agencies, and start contacting some of those and talking to the people who work for these agencies, about what they look for in terms of hiring, and where you can number nine is frame your experience in a way that relates to what they might be looking for.

Remember, the more you make them think, the more they’re gonna not realize that you might be qualified to help them. So lay it out in the simple way. You’ve got work to do.
